Monica Seles, Andres Gimeno, Donald Dell & Robert Johnson To Tennis HOF

NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND, USA – Christopher Clouser, Chairman of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum and Tony Trabert, Hall of Fame President, have announced the names of the newly elected members to the International Tennis Hall of Fame.  Leading the Induction Class of 2009 is nine-time Grand Slam Singles Champion and former World No. 1 Monica Seles.  

Joining Seles for Hall of Fame induction is one of Spain’s most prominent tennis players of the 1960s, Andres Gimeno, who has been elected in the Master Player category. In addition, elected in the Contributor category are Donald L. Dell, an industry pioneer and leader in sports marketing, professional sports management and sports television and founder of ProServ; and the late Dr. Robert “Whirlwind” Johnson, founder and director of the American Tennis Association (ATA) Junior Development Program, who worked tirelessly for decades assisting in the development of young African-American tennis players while helping to break the barriers of racial segregation.

America's Cup Hall of Fame 16th Induction Ceremony April 30

(BRISTOL, RI) - The America's Cup Hall of Fame, located in Bristol Rhode Island, is pleased to announce the induction of John Longley and the late Thomas Ratsey at a black-tie dinner on April 30, 2009. The 16th Induction Ceremony, presented by Rolex Watch USA and hosted at the New York Yacht Club in New York City, will also honor the late John Biddle for his 2008 induction into the Hall of Fame.

Sprint Car Hall of Fame To Induct 13

KNOXVILLE, IOWA  (January 14, 2009)  -  The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame is pleased to announce the names of its thirteen inductees for 2009.  The individuals will be inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame on Saturday afternoon, May 30, during the twentieth annual ceremonies on the Marion County Fairgrounds in Knoxville, Iowa.  The inductees for 2009 are:

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Announces 2009 Inductees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2009 Inductees to the Induction Ceremony and a weeklong schedule of events to celebrate the Induction’s return to Cleveland.  On April 4, 2009, the Induction Ceremony will take place in Cleveland for the first time since 1997. The 2009 Induction Ceremony will be broadcast live on Fuse TV.

Little League SW Region Headquarters Honors George W. Bush

January 14, 2009
WACO, Texas (Jan. 14, 2009) – Little League’s Southwest Region Headquarters in Waco, Texas, has been renamed in honor of President George W. Bush, the first U.S. President to have played Little League, it was announced today by Dennis Lewin, Chairman of the Little League International Board of Directors.

Little League International maintains six year-around baseball and softball training facilities in the United States, each serving thousands of Little League boys and girls, and adult Little League volunteers. The newest of these facilities in Waco serves Little Leagues in Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Welcomes Clothing Designer Manuel

 (January 11, 2009) - He made Johnny Cash the "Man in Black" and put the "sparkle" in Sparkle & Twang. Renowned costume designer Manuel will be the first guest of 2009 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's FREE monthly program From Songwriters to Soundmen: The People Behind the Hits.  He will be interviewed at the Rock Hall on Wednesday, January 21 at 7 p.m. in the Museum's 4th Floor Theater.

Manuel recently traveled to Cleveland, Ohio for the opening of the Rock Hall's new exhibit Sparkle & Twang: Marty Stuart's American Musical Odyssey.  The collection represents over 40 years of rock and roll, classic country, rockabilly, bluegrass and southern gospel greats. It encompasses an astounding array of accessories, handwritten lyrics, personal letters, instruments, and performance costumes, several of which were designed by Manuel.

World Golf Hall of Fame Releases 2009 Ballots

St. Augustine, Fla. (January 13, 2008) –  The World Golf Hall of Fame today released the 2009 PGA TOUR and International Ballots to its respective voting bodies comprised of Hall of Fame members, golf journalists, historians and dignitaries from around the globe. The ballots are due Monday, March 2 and an announcement for the 2009 Class of Inductees will be made later this spring.   

New candidates this year are Jay Haas and Kenny Perry on the PGA TOUR Ballot and Irishman Darren Clarke on the International Ballot.

Rice and Henderson Elected To Baseball Hall of Fame

January 13, 2009
Rickey Henderson, baseball's all-time stolen-bases and runs-scored leader, and power-hitting outfielder Jim Rice have been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Baseball Writers' Association of America in balloting verified by Ernst & Young. They will be inducted into the Hall on July 26 at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Henderson and Rice will be honored along with former New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians second baseman Joe Gordon, who was elected last month by the Veterans Committee. The July 26 Induction Ceremony will also include the presentation of the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting to Tony Kubek and the J.G. Taylor Spink Award for baseball writing to Nick Peters.

Tennis Hall of Fame Mourns Death of Sidney Wood

January 11, 2009
NEWPORT, RI -- The International Tennis Hall of Fame has announced the passing of Hall of Famer Sidney B. Wood. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1964 alongside Don Budge, George Adee, George Lott, Alice Marble and Frank Shields, Wood died earlier today in Palm Beach, Florida. He was 97.
 
Wood, formerly the oldest living Hall of Famer, won the 1931 Wimbledon Singles Championship and was a finalist in the 1935 U.S. Championships. He was also a U.S. Doubles finalist in 1942 and a French Mixed Doubles finalist in 1932. He was ranked in the World Top 10 five times between 1931 and 1938, reaching No. 5 in 1938. He was ranked in the U.S. Top 10 ten times between 1930 and 1945, reaching No. 2 in 1934. He played Davis Cup in 1931 and 1934.
