Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Hosts Pulitzer Prize-Winning Writer David Maraniss

DENVER - The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame will host Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post writer David Maraniss on Thursday, July 31, at 8 a.m. in the DNA lobby (101 W. Colfax Ave.) for a breakfast conversation about his new book "Rome 1960 - The Olympics that Changed the World." Maraniss is the author of the best-selling biographies of Vince Lombardi, Bill Clinton and Roberto Clemente. The event, which costs $15, begins at 8 a.m. with a continental breakfast that is followed by an 8:30 a.m. discussion. Rocky Mountain News Web site host Mark Wolf will moderate the event, which is being presented by the Rocky Mountain News and the Colorado Society of Professional Journalists.

 

52 Hall of Famers in Cooperstown For Induction, July 25-28

(COOPERSTOWN, NY): Fifty-two Hall of Famers are expected to return to Cooperstown July 25-28 for Induction Weekend at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The returning Hall of Famers will welcome the honorees who were elected last winter by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America and the Veterans Committee as the Class of 2008.

Play Ball with Ozzie Smith at Baseball Hall of Fame

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith returns to participate in Play Ball, a fundraiser for the Hall of Fame’s education programs. This unique opportunity for fans will feature fellow Hall of Famers George Brett and Eddie Murray. The two-hour event features non-stop interaction with the Hall of Famers and includes special mementos. It will take place on Friday, July 25th at 8:30 a.m. at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown.

Tennis Hall of Fame's 2008 Class: Michael Chang, Mark McCormack, Eugene L. Scott

NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND, USA –The International Tennis Hall of Fame will hold its annual Induction Ceremony on the legendary grass courts in Newport, Rhode Island on Saturday, July 12, 2008. This year’s Class of 2008 will be represented by Michael Chang, one of only three American men to capture the French Open singles title in the last 53 years. Also being inducted are contributors Mark McCormack and Eugene L. Scott, both posthumously. McCormack was a legendary sports executive and the founder of International Management Group (IMG), while Scott was the founder and publisher of the national tennis magazine, Tennis Week.

Country Music Hall of Fame Premiers Kitty Wells Exhibit

Opening weekend festivities will include a 45-minute exhibit tour, guided by a Museum curator; an interview with Wells, hosted by 650 WSM announcer Eddie Stubbs and illustrated with photos, film footage and recordings from the Museum’s Frist Library and Archive; an autograph signing by Wells in the Museum Store; and a screening of the 1982 Showtime special A Tribute to Kitty Wells, hosted by Tammy Wynette. Ben Coates Elected To Patriots Hall of Fame

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Patriots announced that tight end Ben Coates, who played for the team for nine seasons from 1991-99, was elected by Patriots fans as the 13th member of the Patriots Hall of Fame. He becomes the first tight end inducted into The Hall. The Patriots will honor Coates, along with all 12 previous Hall of Famers, in the first enshrinement ceremony at The Hall at Patriot Place Presented by Raytheon this fall.

Sir Bob Charles Final 2008 World Golf Hall of Fame Inductee
