The Sports Museum Celebrates Rich Heritage of Boston Bruins

At The Sports Museum, we are all about celebrating the rich heritage of Boston sports. This new DVD captures an important part of that heritage with respect to the Boston Bruins. The Sports Museum, in fact, is proud to have contributed to the creation and production of this Bruins DVD by providing rare photographs, footage, and other archival materials.

Join the entire Boston Bruins team, coaching staff, management, and alumni as they celebrate the release of the History of the Boston Bruins DVD. Gord Kluzak and Andy Brickley will host this special event at the Hard Rock Cafe located in Faneuil Hall on March 24. Proceeds will benefit the Boston Bruins Foundation and Ellis Memorial & Eldredge House.

Soccer Hall of Fame Symposium Available Online

ONEONTA, NYVoices of Soccer: Hall of Famers and Their Passion for The Game, a symposium presented by the National Soccer Hall of Fame at the recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Annual Convention is now available on-line at the Hall of Fame’s web site, www.soccerhall.org. The one hour discussion session featured three members of the Hall of Fame, Marcelo Balboa (Class of 2005), Anson Dorrance (2008), and Julie Foudy (2007) along with Jeff Agoos and Joy Fawcett, elected to the Hall of Fame in 2009 and announced on Fox Soccer Channel’s Center Circle Live the evening before.

Hank Aaron Exhibit To Open At Baseball Hall of Fame

March 17, 2009

(COOPERSTOWN, NY) – The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will dedicate a new, permanent exhibit entitled “Hank Aaron: Chasing the Dream,” celebrating the lifetime story and achievements of the Baseball Hall of Fame legendary outfielder. The exhibit will be formally dedicated on Saturday, April 25, with an 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony as part of a day-long salute to Aaron and his accomplishments.

 

“Chasing the Dream” features four topical explorations of the life and times of Aaron, from his early days as a youth in Mobile, Ala., through his present endeavors with the Chasing the Dream Foundation and his numerous honors for his philanthropic work. The exhibit will also detail his climb to excellence in his major league career, along with an entire section dedicated to chasing Babe Ruth’s historic home run record in 1974.  “Chasing the Dream” marks the first of two exhibits slated to open in honor of Aaron, with “Hank Aaron: Gallery of Records,” an exhibit recognizing the statistical leaders of baseball, slated to open in 2011.

San Diego Hall of Champions to Open Jeremy Lusk Tribute Exhibit

The Hall of Champions is opening a new exhibit in honor of recently fallen motocross star Jeremy Lusk (X Games gold medal winner).  Jeremy was a well known motocross personality and was closely tied to the San Diego community. Jeremy accumulated numerous awards over his career including, ESPN Moto X Championships FMX - Bronze,  X Games FMX - Gold, X Games Best Trick - Silver, X Games Mex FMX - Gold to name a few.


The Jeremy Lusk Tribute Exhibit and Dedication will take place at the San Diego Hall of Champions at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18. The Hall of Champions Sports Museum is located at 2131 Pan American Plaza in Balboa Park. Memorabilia from the San Diegan's career will be on display including the rider's bike, gear and trophies.

Tennis Hall of Fame To Induct Wheelchair Members

NEWPORT, RI  --  The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum today announced that it will honor wheelchair tennis athletes and administrators with induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. This major expansion of eligible individuals is in addition to the traditional Hall of Fame induction categories of Recent Players, Master Players and Contributors.

Former Pro Football Hall of Fame Executive Director John Bankert Dies

March 13, 2009
John Bankert, who spent his entire professional career at the Pro Football Hall of Fame including serving as the museum’s executive director, died March 12, 2009 after a lengthy illness. He was 68.

Bankert was a moving force and integral part of the organization’s numerous accomplishments including major building expansions, and the growth of the annual Enshrinement Festival.

USA TODAY Ranks Tennis Hall of Fame in "10 Great Places To Indulge Your Love For Tennis"

NEWPORT, RI – The International Tennis Hall of Fame located in Newport, Rhode Island, was identified in a USA TODAY article as one of the “10 Great Places to Indulge Your Love for Tennis.”  

The article, by Tim Smight for USA TODAY in collaboration with tennis historian and Hall of Famer Bud Collins, notes the long tradition of tennis in Newport dating to the first U.S. National Lawn Tennis Championships held in 1881, the tournament that evolved into today’s US Open.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame To Unveil Springsteen Exhibit In April

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will unveil its latest exhibit, From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen on Wednesday, April 1 during the 2009 Induction Ceremony week of events. This will be the first major artifact-driven exhibit about Springsteen's career. The exhibit will run through the spring of 2010.
 
From Asbury Park to the Promised Land will be a comprehensive look at Springsteen's music, from such early bands as Child, the Castiles and Steel Mill through his work with the E Street Band and as a solo artist. The exhibit will include several of Springsteen's guitars, including the Fender Esquire that is on the cover of Born to Run. It will also include the outfit he wore on the cover of Born in the U.S.A., as well as numerous handwritten lyric manuscripts, posters and handbills from all phases of his career, and various awards and honors. In addition, the exhibit will include Springsteen's 1960 Chevrolet Corvette, which he purchased after the success of Born to Run.
 
Bruce Springsteen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

 

Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame to Host College Basketball Awards

Tickets are now on sale for the presentations of the Cellular South Howell Trophy and the Cellular South Gillom Trophy which are awarded annually to Mississippi's top men's and women's college basketball players as determined by media voters across the state.
 
The presentations will take place Monday March 30, 2009 at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum in Jackson, MS. A reception for all honorees starts at 5:30pm with the program beginning at 6:30pm.
 
The top three men's players and top three women's players will be present with their coaches. Also in attendance will be the namesakes of the two awards: former Ole Miss All-American Peggie Gillom and former Mississippi State All-American Bailey Howell.
 
Tickets for adults that include both the reception and the presentation are $50. A student ticket for basketball fans age 17 and under is $25. All proceeds benefit the private non-profit Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum.
