Scott Tinley

Scott Tinley Scott Tinley is an educator, author, and athlete. A 7th generation Californian, Scott teaches sport humanities courses at San Diego State University, Cal State San Marcos and literature and writing at Grossmont College.

Scott is a member of the Ironman Hall of Fame, a two-time Ironman World Champion, and has competed professionally in more than 400 triathlons. He is author of several books, including Racing the Sunset, a personal and in-depth study of athlete retirement. Scott recently founded the Institute for Athletes in Retirement and Transition (IART) at San Diego State University and continues to conduct research on the subject. Although retired from professional competition since 1999, Scott has found a new passion in paddleboard racing.
