NEWPORT, RI -- The International Tennis Hall of Fame has announced that Boston Businessman and Harvard Alum Peter Palandjian will be a Co-chair of the 2008 Legends Ball.  The International Tennis Hall of Fame’s Legends Ball will take place on Friday, September 5 in New York, and is the premier social event during the US Open (August 25-September 7).

The Legends Ball will be held at Cipriani 42nd Street in Newport York City on the second Friday of the 2008 US Open Tennis Championships. This special night of celebration will honor Billie Jean King, the Hall of Fame Induction Class of 2008 -- Michael Chang, Mark McCormack and Eugene Scott -- and a host of tennis luminaries. The event, held annually since 1980, brings the tennis world together to celebrate the history of the game and honor the sport’s great contributors, all while raising money for the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum.

“I am honored to be a Co-chair of this year’s Legends Ball,” said Palandjian. “The International Tennis Hall of Fame has an exciting and inspiring mission, and I am looking forward to working with everyone to ensure a successful event.”

Peter Palandjian is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Intercontinental Real Estate Corp., a SEC registered private equity investment and development firm that for over forty years has built, developed, managed and owned over four billion dollars of real estate.

A former world ranked ATP professional tennis player, Palandjian is an active board member of the Children’s Museum, the Taubman Center at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, the Sovereign Bank New England Advisory Board, and the New England Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP).  In addition, he serves as a Trustee of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Fessenden School, and in 2007 was named to the Board of Directors of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Palandjian, a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Business School, continues to work on behalf of Harvard as an undergraduate admissions interviewer.

Joining Palandjian in leading the 2008 Legends Ball are Co-chairs Phil de Picciotto, President of Octagon Athletes & Personalities, and Alexander Seaver, co-founder and managing partner of Stadium Capital Management, LLC, investment firm.

The mission of the International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum, based in Newport, Rhode Island, is to preserve the history of tennis, inspire and encourage junior tennis development, enshrine tennis heroes and heroines and provide a landmark for tennis enthusiasts worldwide.

This year’s Legends Ball will host a legendary line-up of tennis greats will be in attendance, including more than a dozen Hall of Famers, tennis champions and dignitaries. A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the third annual Eugene L. Scott Award to Billie Jean King.  The award honors an individual who embodies Scott’s commitment to communicating honestly and critically about the game, and who has had a significant impact on the tennis world.  Scott founded Tennis Week magazine and wrote the most widely read and well-respected column about the sport, “Vantage Point.”  Andre Agassi was honored last year while John McEnroe received the inaugural award in 2006.

Guests will also have the opportunity to bid upon once-in-a-lifetime experiences and unique items in a silent and live auction.  In the past, auction items have included hit sessions with tennis champions Pete Sampras, Jim Courier and Pam Shriver; ticket and travel packages to Grand Slam events; a meet and greet with Tiger Woods; golf at legendary courses like Winged Foot; and autographed tennis memorabilia from contemporary champions, including Roger Federer, James Blake, Maria Sharapova and Andre Agassi.
