(COOPERSTOWN, N.Y.): The final Hall of Fame Game, set to feature the Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres at historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, was cancelled due to inclement weather on Monday. At 2:35 the sold-out game was called due to poor weather conditions, shortly after the National Anthem.

"We wish that Mother Nature had cooperated on an otherwise flawless day,” said Jeff Idelson, President of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. “The enthusiasm of the fans, the participation of the Cubs and Padres, and the complete team effort of the residents, Doubleday Field grounds crew and the businesses of Cooperstown made for a perfect and exciting atmosphere. We thank Major League Baseball for making every attempt to have the game played, in spite of the weather."

The Hall of Fame Game Parade took place as scheduled at 12 p.m. Although the homerun derby could not take place, limited pregame ceremony commenced before the game’s cancellation. This marks the ninth occasion when the annual Hall of Fame Game has been cancelled.

Ticket holders who had been admitted to the park can receive a refund of the face value of the ticket my mailing the ticket stub, along with the ticket holder’s name and address to: Cooperstown Baseball Committee, P.O. Box 590, Cooperstown, NY, 13326. Refunds will be issued by check and should take 4-6 weeks for processing.

The Hall of Fame Game was the last surviving in-season exhibition game in Major League Baseball and began in 1940. Major League Baseball announced in January that this year’s game would be the last due to Major League scheduling and traveling concerns.
