DALLAS, July 7, 2008 - The National Football Foundation (NFF) announced today that widely- respected broadcaster Charles Davis will emcee the 2008 College Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Dinner & Show at the Palais Royale Ballroom in South Bend, Ind. on Saturday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m.
"One of the top broadcasters in college football today, we are honored that Charles Davis has agreed to emcee one of the National Football Foundations' marquee events," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "The enshrinement of the greatest players and coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame represents the pinnacle of achievement in our sport, and Charles' talents will ensure that the night will rank as one of the most memorable and entertaining for all those involved."
The Enshrinement Dinner & Show will feature 16 All- America players and four legendary coaches (listed below) as they are immortalized among the greatest of all time in the College Football Hall of Fame. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from each member of the enshrinement class as they reflect on their careers and the meaning of being bestowed with the sport's ultimate honor.
"Having played college football and now earning my living as a commentator, I have a deep appreciation for what it takes to play at college football at the highest level. Earning a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame means these individuals have distinguished themselves as best of the best," said Davis. "It's a thrill and an honor for me to share the stage with each of these legends and even more so as a collective group during their enshrinement."
Davis, a featured analyst on the NFL Network, Fox-TV and the Big Ten Network, has built a reputation as one of college football's most sought after personalities and commentators. His work with the NFL Network includes "College Football Now", the "Path to the Draft", "NFL Total Access", "Inside Minicamp" and coverage of the Senior Bowl, the NFL Combine, the NFL Draft, and the Texas Bowl. As the lead color analyst for FOX's coverage of Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and the lead football analyst for the Big Ten Network, Davis broadcasting resume covers many signature college football games, including the 2007 and 2008 BCS National Championships and the first-ever game on the Big Ten Network when Appalachian State's triumphed in its historic upset of Michigan.
He has worked as a lead analyst for TBS' football coverage of the Big 12 and Pac-10 Conferences. A versatile commentator, his experience extends to the NBA as sideline reporter on TNT and an as analyst for CBS' coverage of the NCAA basketball tournament. He also co-hosted the "The Grey Goose 19th Hole" on the Golf Channel for five years and the Sunshine Network's popular evening sports show, Sunshine Network Live for four years.
A four-year starter at defensive back for the University of Tennessee from 1983-86, Davis led the Volunteers to four straight bowl appearances, including the 1983 Florida Citrus Bowl, the 1984 Sun Bowl, the 1986 Liberty Bowl, and the 1986 Sugar Bowl. After leading the Volunteers in interceptions in three of his four years, he captured Academic All-Southeastern Conference honors in 1986.
