New York, NY – Toy industry guru Richard Gottlieb has accepted the honor of being a member of the Selection Committee for the National Toy Hall of Fame®. Located in the Strong National Museum of Play® in Rochester, New York, the winners will be announced at a major press conference at the hall on November 6, 2008.

“I am extremely proud to be associated with such a prestigious organization as Strong National Museum of Play and its National Toy Hall of Fame,” said Richard Gottlieb, President of Richard Gottlieb & Associates an internationally-known toy industry commentator and consultant. “Toys help make the child and the child makes the adult, so the business of creating toys is not just a joyous one but one that is freighted with great responsibility. These awards give these toys and their creators their due as providers of fun and molders of the nation.”

The National Toy Hall of Fame at Strong Museum of Play recognizes toys that have engaged and delighted multiple generations, inspiring them to learn, create, and discover through play.

According to G. Rollie Adams, president and CEO of Strong National Museum of Play, “Richard’s impressive knowledge of toy industry leaders and trends makes him a great addition to our national panel. We are delighted that he has accepted our invitation and that he has agreed to lend his expertise to our annual toy induction process.”

Each year, a minimum of two toys are inducted, and criteria for induction include: Icon-status (the toy is widely recognized, respected, and remembered); Longevity (the toy is more than a passing fad and has enjoyed the popularity over multiple generations); Discovery (the toy fosters learning, creativity, or discovery through play) and Innovation (the toy profoundly changed play or toy design).

To date, the following 38 toys have made it into the National Toy Hall of Fame®: Alphabet Blocks, Atari® Game System, Barbie®, Bicycle, Candy Land®, Cardboard Box, Checkers, Crayola® Crayons, Duncan® Yo-Yo, Easy-Bake® Oven, Erector® Set, Etch A Sketch®, Frisbee®, GI Joe™, Hula Hoop®, Jack in the Box, Jacks, Jigsaw Puzzle, Jump Rope, Kite, Lego®, Lincoln Logs®, Lionel® Trains, Marbles, Monopoly®, Mr. Potato Head®, Play-Doh®, Radio Flyer® Wagon, Raggedy Ann & Andy™, Rocking Horse, Roller Skates, Scrabble®, Silly Putty®, Slinky®, Teddy Bear, Tinkertoy®, Tonka® Trucks, and View Master®.
