A donation from Bill Koch has saved the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. Koch, a businessman, philanthropist, sailor, and collector donated $100,000 to the Hall to avoid it from being evicted for failure to pay its rent to the city. This Hall owed the city $97,600.

"With that payment, we have bought some more time," said Ted Hayes, the Hall's president and chief executive. "It was embarrassing to come up short on the lease. We are going to win this fight in the long run." Hayes also stated a series of fund-raising efforts will occur to bolster the Hall's finances.

Koch is the son of the late Fred C. Koch, founder of Koch Industries. He is the founder and president of The Oxboro Group in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Koch, a world-class sailor, won America's Cup on America in 1992. He was inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame in 1993, and also won the New York Yacht Club Medal of Honor the same year. Koch was the Kansan of the Year in both 1993 and 1994, and was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
