Charlotte City Council has agreed to a $32 million dollar extension for the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which is due to open in 2010. Increased costs for construction and interactive displays and exhibits were sited as the need for extra funds. The interactive displays alone required an estimated additional $17 million.

The total price tag for the NASCAR Hall of Fame is now at $195M. The money for this project is not coming directly out of the taxpayers' pockets. A 2% tax on Mecklenburg County hotels has funded the project from the outset.
