Hall of Fame Weekend begins in just four days, and with the excitement of the induction of the Class of 2009 comes three annual interactive events sponsored by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum:
FRIDAY, JULY 24 – PLAY Ball: Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith returns to Cooperstown for the annual PLAY Ball event to raise funds for the Hall of Fame’s education programs. It’s the Players, Legends and You playing Ball on Doubleday Field beginning at 8:30 a.m. Join the "Wizard" and his special guest Hall of Famers Wade Boggs, Harmon Killebrew and Eddie Murray for two hours of non-stop interaction, including personalized instruction and the chance to turn double plays. Each participant receives time on the field with these baseball legends, as well as mementos of the occasion including a personalized full-size bat. Spots for the opportunity are $400 for participants in the Hall of Fame’s Membership Program and $600 for non-members, and space is limited to 40 participants. Spots may be reserved by calling 607-547-0397.
SATURDAY, JULY 25 – Connecting Generations: Hall of Famers Goose Gossage, Ryne Sandberg and Dick Williams will play the family fun game Connecting Generations at 3 p.m. at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown. Former major leaguer and current MLB Network analyst Harold Reynolds will serve as the host for the program. The game will feature three groups of participants chosen from the audience. In each round, both participants and Hall of Famers field one question. The questions are based off of a survey of 100 Hall of Fame fans, and the goal for each team is to name as many of the top five answers as possible before getting three strikes (three incorrect answers). Following the game show, selected fans may ask questions of the Hall of Famers on stage. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Tickets may be reserved by calling 607-547-0397.
MONDAY, JULY 27 – Legends Series Event: On the Monday following the Induction Ceremony, the two newest Hall of Famers – Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice – will share their experiences with fans as they participate in a Legends Series event in Cooperstown. Henderson and Rice will relive memories of their playing careers as well as recap the weekend when they joined sport’s most exclusive fraternity. The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the site of the Induction Ceremony, the Clark Sports Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 and can be reserved calling 607-547-0397.
These three events are just part of an action-packed Hall of Fame Weekend at the Baseball Hall of Fame – highlighted by the inductions of Joe Gordon, Henderson and Rice as the Class of 2009 at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 26. Admission to the Induction Ceremony is free.
The 2009 Induction Ceremony will be held on the grounds of the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown, unless severe weather forces the event to be canceled. Seating is unlimited. The Ceremony will be televised live on MLB Network, broadcast nationally on Sirius XM Radio Home Plate Channel 175 and will be available via a Webcast at www.baseballhall.org.
