Razing Paves Way For NASCAR HOF

HOFMAG.com Staff

CHARLOTTE, NC (October 27, 2006) – The Risk Management building in Charlotte is being razed to make room for the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

The racing shrine will comprise 100,000 square feet and will be constructed on a five-acre parcel at Caldwell, Brevard, Second and Stonewall streets.

Charlotte was chosen in March as the site for the hall, inching out several other cities like Atlanta, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Richmond, Va. The museum will honor NASCAR icons that have impacted the sport.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame will feature a restaurant, retail outlet, entertainment and a state-of-the-art media center. It is expected to cost $155 million dollars, and will be largely financed through a hotel occupancy tax.

A groundbreaking is scheduled for early 2007 and the hall of fame is expected to open in 2009.
