LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - Lake Placid will once again become the basketball hotbed of the North Country on December 26-27 with the playing of the third annual Olympic Center Holiday Hoopfest, presented by Primelink and Anaconda Sports.

Five games will be contested on December 26 beginning at 1 pm and seven more will be held on December 27 starting at 10 am. There will be nine girls games and three boys contests.

All 12 match-ups will take place in the 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center, site of the 1980 Winter Olympic Miracle on Ice. The venue is managed by the New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA).

The event was officially announced at a press conference November 16 at the 99 Restaurant in Plattsburgh.

All proceeds will benefit the FitzPatrick Cancer Center at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. In two years, the event has raised $15,000.

Shawn Rogers of the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, Greg MacConnell of Primelink, primary sponsor of the event and Greg Waters, event founder and coach of the girls' team at Beekmantown, expressed their enthusiasm.

According to Rogers, director of the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, his staff is grateful for the opportunity to benefit from such an event. "The FitzPatrick Cancer Center is very excited to be a part of the 2006 Holiday Hoopfest," he stated. "The money raised the last two years was used to purchase equipment that allows the FitzPatrick Cancer Center to provide state-of-the-art treatment to cancer patients of the North Country. The athletes, sponsors and ORDA should feel proud knowing that by participating in this event, they are directly helping someone in their community. It is an honor for the FitzPatrick Cancer Center to be affiliated with Hoopfest again this year."

Added MacConnell, Primelink President and General Manager: "Speaking on behalf of PrimeLink and all our employees, it is our great pleasure to sponsor the 2006 Holiday Hoopfest. The Hoopfest brings together the best in holiday basketball action and provides beneficial support for The Fitzpatrick Cancer Center, our regional cancer treatment facility. PrimeLink wishes all the coaches and competitors the best of luck and we thank all the fans and spectators for demonstrating their support for this worthy cause."

"Anaconda is honored to be participating in an event that gives to so many people," said Heather Semelmacher, National Sales Representative for Anaconda Sports. "We hope to continue our relationship with the Hoopfest and commend them for the impact the event has had on lives of many North Country residents."

"We feel the Holiday Hoopfest will be bigger and better than last year and will continue to grow in the years ahead," said Waters. "This event is an excellent way for local high school athletes to play in a historic arena and at the same time help generate money for the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center. We are very excited about this event and believe it will be a huge success for everyone."

ORDA has also contributed to the fund-raising cause by offering a lower venue rental fee.
