National Baseball HOF Internship Application Deadline January 31

COOPERSTOWN, NY – College students from across the country can experience the opportunity of a lifetime by applying for a position in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s 2007 class of the Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program for Youth Leadership Development. Applications are due Jan. 31.

This June, the Museum welcomes the seventh class of Steele interns, who will gain valuable insight from the staff of the nation’s best-known sports shrine. The 10-week program, which runs from June 4 until Aug. 10, affords a diverse group of students the opportunity to work in a variety of program areas related to both baseball and museum operations. Interns are placed in one of more than 20 departments such as collections, education, membership, research and communications, where they gain insight into their desired career field. They receive a stipend for the duration of the program. Students can learn more and submit applications on-line at www.baseballhalloffame.org.

"The Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program is one of the most important and beneficial facets of this great organization. Not only do these young people receive training and experience from our top-notch staff, but the Museum gains some fresh perspectives from these brilliant young minds," said Hall of Fame President Dale Petroskey.

The 2006 participants were selected from more than 300 applicants and traveled from as far as California to intern in Cooperstown. The interns found that their high expectations entering the experience were surpassed.

"Everyone asks me what the best part of this internship was, and I never know what to choose," said 2006 multimedia intern Melissa French of Raymond, N.H.  "Do I talk about the conversation I had with Brooks Robinson? Being able to hold Ted Williams' jersey? Having my projects on display in the Museum and being treated like a full-time employee instead of an intern? Learning so much from the career seminars and other assignments? Or just how amazing every single person I worked with was? All I can say is ‘experience of a lifetime’ doesn't even come close to describing it."

Typical summer projects for interns include public presentation and speaking opportunities, one-on-one interaction with full-time staff and writing assignments. These activities help interns gain a broader perspective about the Museum’s mission as well as a better understanding of the organization’s structure.

Steele Interns also have the opportunity to grow beyond the walls of the Hall of Fame. Interns and several staff members will venture to Philadelphia to take in a Phillies’ game at Citizens Bank Park. While at the ballpark, interns will get receive a tour of Citzens Bank Park and learn about the various jobs filled by stadium staff.
