When the Washington Nationals open on April 2, the team will have HOF pitcher Don Sutton doing the analysis on its telecasts.
The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network and Washington Nationals said Monday that Sutton will be the one to handle color this year. He'll be teamed up with play-by-play broadcaster Bob Carpenter for more than 150 regular season Nationals games on MASN, the regional sports network co-owned by the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals. Sutton was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by Writers in 1998 with 386 votes on 473 ballots, an impressive 81.6 percent. A model of consistency and durability throughout his 23-year major league career, Don Sutton won 324 games and struck out 3,574 batters, while never missing his turn in the pitching rotation for the Dodgers, Astros, Brewers, Athletics and Angels. A four-time All-Star, he reached double figures in wins in 21 of his 23 seasons and struck out over 100 batters in each of his first 21 campaigns. He pitched in four World Series and posted five career one-hit games. Sutton retired from baseball in 1988 and made a successful transition to the broadcast booth. Working with the Atlanta Braves on TBS, Sutton provided play-by-play commentary until last season. |
