Features Springfield College and men's collegiate volleyball standouts UC San Diego, Rutgers/Newark and Ball State Players' and Coaches' Clinics offered - Feb. 10

HOLYOKE, MA (January 24, 2007) - Winter heats up fast in New England when the Volleyball Hall of Fame hosts the sizzling play of top collegiate Division I-II men's teams. The 20th annual Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic will be held at Springfield College on Friday and Saturday February 9 & 10 and is guaranteed to bring you the best of big-time volleyball. This year's event will feature UC San Diego ('06 ranking #11); perennial top contenders, Ball State University and Rutgers/Newark University and four-time Div. III national champions Springfield College.

Ball State will face Rutgers at 6:00 p.m. on opening night at Blake Arena. Springfield battles UC San Diego at 8:00 pm. The tourney concludes on Saturday with the consolation match at 6:00 p.m. and the always-thrilling Championship match at 8:00 p.m.

"This is the best men's collegiate volleyball action you can see on the East Coast," says Hall of Fame Executive Director Jerry Fitzsimons. "It is a great family night out, especially for those new to volleyball."

Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for youth and students.

The Morgan Classic Players’ Clinic and the Morgan Classic Coaches’ Clinic will be offered again this year at Springfield College on Saturday, Feb. 10. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn skills from the players and coaches from the tournament teams. The fee for each clinic is $50 per person and includes one ticket to Saturday evening's matches.

"These clinics are highly regarded for their active-player format, and folks travel from as far as Pennsylvania and Maine to attend. We suggest that people sign up early as these clinics sellout every year," says Charlie Sullivan, Springfield College men's head coach.

For information on the tourney and the clinics, or for sponsorship information, call the Volleyball Hall of Fame at (413) 536-0926, or checkout the official website, www.volleyhall.org.

The Volleyball Hall of Fame is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the great men and women of the sport and to promote, throughout the world, the growth of the sport, founded in Holyoke in 1895.
