Edgar Martinez Heads For Mariners' HOF

Seatttle, WA – (January 25, 2007) – Edgar Martinez will be inducted into the Seattle Mariners' Hall of Fame. Martinez played his entire 18-year career with the Mariners and will be inducted on Saturday, June 2 at Safeco Field. The event will coincide with the opening of the new Northwest Baseball Museum and Hall of Fame at Safeco Field.

He follows first baseman Alvin Davis, announcer Dave Niehaus and outfielder Jay Buhner into the Mariners' Hall of Fame. Martinez was a two-time batting champion, seven-time All-Star, and named the American League's top designated hitter five times. The DH award is now named in his honor.

Martinez also delivered the most memorable hit in franchise history, when his two-run double off Jack McDowell beat the Yankees at the Kingdome in the deciding game of the 1995 Division Series.
