Basketball Hall of Fame to Announce Finalists for Election

Naismith Memorial Basketball HOF

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will reveal the Finalists for Election on Friday, February 16th at 11:30am in Las Vegas.

2001 Hall of Fame Gowdy Media Award winner Dick Stockton will host the event, with several Hall of Famers and NBA legends on hand to help unveil the Finalists alongside John L. Doleva, Hall of Fame President and CEO. One or more of the Finalists are also expected to be in attendance to comment on their nomination.

Candidates with NBA ties eligible to be selected as a Finalist for the Class of 2007 are highlighted by first time nominees Chris Mullin and Phil Jackson. Previous Finalists leading the list of 2007 Hall of Fame candidates include NBA legends Maurice Cheeks, Adrian Dantley, Dennis Johnson and Bernard King; former WNBA coach Van Chancellor and ESPN's Dick Vitale.

Four separate Hall of Fame Screening Committees (North American, Women's, Veteran's and International) review candidates in their respective group and select the Finalists, whose names will be revealed for the first time publicly on February 16th.

All Finalists names are then placed on the official 2007 election ballot and forwarded to a 24 member Honors Committee, with a Finalist needing a minimum of 18 of 24 votes from the Honors Committee to be elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame Class of 2007 will be announced at the NCAA Men's Final Four in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, April 2nd, with Enshrinement Ceremonies to be held at the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts September 6-8.
