National Soccer HOF To Announce Inductees Feb. 27

National Soccer Hall of Fame

ONEONTA, NY (February 14, 2007) – The National Soccer Hall of Fame will announce the results of the Player Election at a press conference on Tuesday, February 27, at 10:30 AM. The announcement will take place at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. Hall of Fame President George Brown, Hall of Fame Class of 1995, will introduce the new inductees and present them with the traditional Hall of Fame jersey. The new inductees are expected to be present to make statements and respond to media questions. The announcement is sponsored by The Century Council’s Girl Talk: Choices and Consequences of Underage Drinking.

There were 62 players on the 2007 Hall of Fame Ballot, from which a maximum of three may be elected. The vote total is expected to exceed last year’s record 123 ballots. Votes are cast by nominated soccer media, Hall of Famers, past and present U.S. National Team coaches, MLS coaches, and select soccer administrators. Approximately 80% of the voters will be from the media and the Hall of Famers.

"This is an historic year for the Hall of Fame," Brown said. "For the first time ever women dominated the group that was eligible for the first time. Of the thirteen candidates who are in there first year of eligibility, 7 are women."

Induction 2007 weekend will take place August 24th thru 26th on the Hall of Fame campus in Oneonta, NY. Details of the weekend will be released in March.
