Norv Turner, Dennis Johnson, Dwayne Wade...Pitchers & Catchers

Norv Turner? Are you kidding me? To take over probably the most talented team in the NFL? Yikes – The Spanos family and A.J. Smith are as incompetent as reported. Turner – an outstanding offensive coordinator who helped the Cowboys win two Super Bowls –is an absolute failure as a head coach. In nine seasons with the Redskins and Raiders, he compiled a record of 58-82-1, had just one 10 win season, and made just one playoff appearance. In two seasons with Oakland, his team won only one game against an AFC West opponent. This is Marty Schottenheimer's replacement? Ha ha ha.

Schottenheimer may have come up short in post-season games, but the man has won 200 games in his coaching career. Turner will likely not even coach 200 games in his career. If I'm a Charger fan, I'm making plans for next January, knowing I won't have to worry about my team being in the playoffs.

Condolences to the family of former NBAer Dennis Johnson. The five time All-Star guard collapsed and died Thursday while coaching a practice for his Austin Toros of the NBDL. He was just 52. He played on three NBA Champions – the 1979 Seattle Supersonics (he was the Finals MVP) and the 1984 and 1986 Boston Celtics. He was regarded as one of the greatest defensive players in NBA history.

Farewell DJ: The five time All-Star died Thursday while coaching a practice for his Austin Toros of the NBDL.

Are there any better words than "pitchers and catchers have reported to spring training?" Well, maybe, "you've won the lottery" but other than that, probably not. Baseball is back. Sure bet of the 2007 baseball season: the St. Louis Cardinals will not win the World Series. Anyone else getting tired of the annual Roger Clemens soap opera? Look, he'll probably be able to pitch at an All-Star level until he's in his 50s, but every year it's the same "will he or won't he" play again nonsense. Make up your mind, Rocket, and quit trying to hog the headlines.

Dwayne Wade may miss the rest of the regular season with a dislocated shoulder. That being said, the Heat will be okay, because Shaquille O'Neal will take over and they will make the playoffs. And if Wade makes it back for the post-season, the Heat has a good chance of getting to the Finals again. If he doesn't bounce the ball until October, there will be a new NBA Champion.

It's Thursday. Is Britney in or out of rehab today?. Spoke with Esther Tognozi, the woman who owns the salon where Britney went Sinead O'Connor last Friday. She said the pop princess looked worn out and seemed very hormonal.

Have you been watching the hearing to determine where Anna Nicole Smith will be buried? And who'll have the final say in that matter – her family or one of her many lovers? You have to admit, Howard K. Stern comes across as your stereotypical sleazy lawyer. And really, does he seem like the type of guy Smith would go for? Oh, wait a minute. She did marry an 89-year-old wheelchair-bound man. I take that back. No, one more minute. The 89-year-old was a billionaire. Stern admitted he's living off his parents. So, I ask again: does Stern seem like Anna's type?

Has there ever been a more accomplished basketball man than Hall of Famer Bill Sharman? He was a great collegiate and professional player, great coach and great GM. The only person who comes close to that is the legendary Jerry West, but I don't think anyone – including Jerry himself – would say he was a great coach. He was good, but not on Sharman's level as a coach. And Sharman is a Hall of Famer as a person as well, one of the genuinely nicest and most caring people walking on the planet.
