Johnny Cash In the months leading up to his death on September 12, 2003, Johnny Cash had been recording new material with producer Rick Rubin. On July 4, 2006, American V: A Hundred Highways, the posthumously mixed Johnny Cash album taken from those sessions, was released on the American Recordings label through Lost Highway. The album includes the last song Cash ever wrote, "Like the 309." Cash's "God's Gonna Cut You Down" music video from the album is the odds on favorite to win a coveted CMT Award during Awesome April in Nashville.
