Mardy Fish Will Play Campbell's Hall Of Fame Tennis Championships

NEWPORT, RI – The International Tennis Hall of Fame announced today that ATP Pro Mardy Fish has entered the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, scheduled for July 9-15 in Newport. Played for the Van Alen Cup, the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships features 32 of the top men in professional tennis competing in the only ATP pro event played on grass in North America.

Hailing from Tampa, Florida, Mardy Fish is currently ranked No. 22 in the world. Last week, Fish received the ATP's 2006 Comeback Player of the Year Award. After undergoing two left wrist operations in 2005, his ranking dropped far below 300, but he steadily improved and climbed back into the ATP Top 50 rankings to finish the 2006 tennis season at No. 47. In moving back up the rankings, he won his second career title in Houston (first title 2003 Stockholm), while also making three quarterfinal tournament appearances (Newport, Washington, Metz).

So far in 2007, Fish's game continues to improve. In January he advanced to the quarterfinal of the Australian Open, his best performance at a grand slam event. He also reached the semifinals at Auckland and Memphis and the quarterfinal at San Jose.

Fish also holds three career doubles titles and was the silver medalist in the 2004 Olympics.

Fish, who turned pro in 2000, will be making his sixth appearance in Newport. In 2000, 2002 and 2006 he reached the quarterfinals, his best results on the Hall's legendary grass courts.
