2. Bob Horner (Arizona State, 1976-78)

Bob Horner

The first to win a Golden Spikes Award, Horner also was Sporting News Player of the Year and the No. 1 draft pick (Atlanta) in 1978. A two-time all-American, he helped the Sun Devils to three CWS trips.

He was named Most Outstanding Player when ASU won it all in 1977. He hit .444 with two homers and nine RBI for the series. He also made the all-CWS team in 1978. In addition to his pro position, third base, Horner played second and short in for the Sun Devils. His career statistics include a .384 average, 56 homers, 229 RBI, 492 total bases and 262 hits. With the Braves, Horner once hit four homers in a game.

1. Pete Incaviglia (Oklahoma State, 1984-85)

Pete Incaviglia

It would not be easy to argue against Baseball America's pick for Player of the Century. Two-time All-American, College Baseball HOF, Golden Spikes winner and, well, intimidating. "Inky" set NCAA career records of 100 homers and .915 slugging, as well as Big Eight records of 324 RBI and 635 total bases. NCAA single-season standards took a beating in 1985, when Incaviglia hit 48 homers, with 143 RBI, 285 total bases and a 1.140 slugging percentage. After his days at Stillwater, he went straight to the majors, where he hit 206 homers during 12 seasons.
