Basketball Hall Of Fame, Lt Governor Murray Set To Unveil New Partnership For Collegiate Basketball

Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame

State House will play host to the Announcement of a New Title Sponsor and Details of $9.82 Million in Economic Impact Expected for Boston

This Wednesday, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and Game Seven Sports Marketing will announce a new title sponsor and new name of its annual college basketball doubleheader. The mobile event, which benefits the not-for-profit Hall of Fame located in Springfield, Mass., the birthplace of basketball, is currently named the Hall of Fame Challenge. The 2007 doubleheader, to be played Dec. 1st at TD Banknorth Garden, will feature Connecticut, Gonzaga, Boston College and Providence College, and will be attended by many of the Museum's Hall of Famers.

The Greater Boston Convention and Visitor's Bureau estimates the economic impact of the event to exceed $9.8 million, as organizers anticipate a complete sellout for the games, significant hotel, restaurant and retail business and numerous additional benefits for the region.

The inaugural Hall of Fame Challenge attracted more than 15,000 fans and a national television audience to the U.S. Airways Center in Phoenix last December, where Gonzaga upset Texas and Arizona rallied to beat Illinois. ESPN returns in 2007 as the doubleheader's broadcast partner.

Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray heads a terrific lineup for the announcement that includes:

  • John L. Doleva, Hall of Fame President & CEO
  • Hall of Famer Tom Heinsohn
    • Hall of Famer Bob Cousy
    • Hall of Famer K.C. Jones
    • Pat Mascaritolo of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau
    • Robert E. Travaglini, Honorary Event Chair and former Senate President
    • Brooks Downing, Game Seven Sports Marketing
    • Broadcaster Sean McDonough as moderator

One-on-one interviews will be available.
